Reading Link Challenge
Congratulations to our Brackendale Bears Reading Link Challenge Team for their excellent performance at the competition on Monday evening! The team was excited to be there and worked well together. Thanks to Ms. Mah for working with the team to prepare them for the competition and to Kate Inman from the Public Library for making it all happen.
Spring Theme Baskets
All classes have been given a ‘theme’ for the gift basket fundraiser. Please bring a donation to contribute to your class basket by this Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
Raffle tickets for the gift baskets will be on sale after school on Wednesday, April 24th and at the Hollywood Glam Dance at Brackendale Elementary on the night of Friday, April 26th.
As a follow-up to our email before Spring Break, we are reaching out to you with a request to complete a survey to help inform the Refresh Process for our School District’s Education Plan: Pathways to Learning.
We welcome feedback from all members of our community — parents, students, staff and the greater public will all have the opportunity to participate in the process.
Please visit our Pathways to Learning – Refresh website where you will find background information on the project as well as a link to complete the short survey. The survey is open until Friday, April 19, 2019.

Theme Gift Basket Fundraiser

Topic: Say-Don’t Say: What Youth with Mental Health Challenges really want from their parents and caring adults. Presenter: Andrea Vukobrat, Youth with lived experience. In this webinar Andrea will share vital lessons from her own lived experience of mental health challenges and from her experience working with youth across the province about what youth really want and need from the caring adults in their lives.
Spring has sprung and the flowers are beginning to show their faces around the school! Such a glorious place we live in!

If you are trimming trees in the garden over the break, please consider bringing your good ‘fort building’ branches to the school as our students truly enjoy engineering and construction this time of year.
Celebrate Family Literacy by playing Family Literacy Bingo with your children during the month of March! The Bingo card has many activities that families can do together to develop literacy skills. When you have completed a full line of literacy activities (vertical, horizontal or diagonal), bring it back to school. Students who return cards will have their name entered to win a prize in our draw! The last day to return the card is April 2nd. Have fun!
Over the Spring Break, The Squamish Public Library is a great place to visit! There are many books and magazines to sign out as well as some special programs for you and your family to enjoy like book contests, free movies and computer coding classes. Ha7lh Skwayel! Mrs. Smith’s class is preparing a Witness Ceremony and Blanket Blessing as part of our school wide Squamish Nation Cultural Program – the ceremony will take place on Friday, March 8th at 11am in the gym and students are preparing invitations for their families.
The Easter Bunny is coming to Brackendale Elementary School with Purdys Chocolatier! The Easter 2019 catalogue will be distributed to the students the week of March 4th. Order Deadline is March 14th. Spring Break is just around the corner and that means the library will be having its last week for library book exchange the week of March 4 –March 8. Please help your child locate any books that need to be returned before the break. Sometimes you will find books in the most interesting places like under a bed or under a sofa couch! Vancouver Coastal Health recommends that you check your records to ensure your children are up to date with their immunizations.
