Sunday, September 30th is

Orange Shirt Day

WE ARE HONOURING ORANGE SHIRT DAY ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28th this year as September 30th is a Sunday!

Orange Shirt Day is a day to honour and remember those who survived and those who were lost in the Residential Schools of Canada. Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity to orange-shirt-daycome together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.

Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.

Teachers throughout the school will be taking part in a range of teaching activities and sharing what the orange shirt represents–teaching empathy, compassion, knowledge and awareness. We also will be having a school wide assembly at 2:00 pm on Friday.

We invite you to wear an orange shirt to school and to explain to those around you why you are doing so.
