Arriving At School On Time - New Year, New Committment

Be on time for school – Multiple benefits

As we consider possibilities for the New Year and a new start, we ask all Brackendale Families to make a renewed commitment to arriving on time.

We understand that from time to time, arriving to school on time can be challenging. However, habitual tardiness disrupts the learning environment for teachers and students.

Being on time coupled with regular attendance are two key factors related to the success of your child’s school life. There are many advantages that being on time brings to your child:

  • Smoother transition from home to school
  • Increased sense of belonging
  • Participating in morning welcoming activities
  • Understanding morning instruction and being ready for learning
  • Developing life long skills – students develop the habit of being punctual with important commitments and develop strategies like packing their school bag the night before
  • Positive self-esteem - arriving on time every day makes children feel good about themselves as learners.

Consistent morning routines can help ease this daily process, and facilitate the development of executive function skills which help us organize information, manage time, and complete steps to reach a goal. These skills begin to develop in your child’s early years and will be skills they use for the rest of their life.  Using photographs increases working memory and helps your child to execute a plan.
